Glossary

DOWNLINE: All of the people who have joined a business opportunity through you; they are part of your business group. Your downline is comprised of all of your referrals and indirect referrals. All persons in your downline are linked directly to your account in some way. A downline of 1000+ users is common and can generate respectable revenue.

FORCED MATRIX: When only a specific number of members are permitted on each level.

FRONTLINE: Members of your DOWNLINE who are on the first level of the MATRIX or 1st TIER.

INDIRECT REFERRAL: An Indirect Referral is someone who was referred to one of your programs by one of your referrals. An example would be, You send Bob a message about some program. Bob clicks on your link and signs up for an account. Bob is now your referral. Bob sends a message to Cindy, telling her about the program. Cindy clicks on the link Bob provided and signs-up. Cindy is now Bob’s referral and your indirect referral.

MATRIX: An array of connected elements often used in MultiLevel Marketing programs. The size of a given matrix is given as two numbers separated by an x, as in "2x2" or "6x6." The first number defines the width of the matrix, while the second defines its depth. A 2x2 matrix looks like this:

                       [YOU]

[TIER 1] [TIER 1]

[TIER 2] [TIER 2] [TIER 2] [TIER 2]

Once 6 members have joined your 2x2 matrix, it is filled. Any additional recruits will be given to other members - usually those in your downline. This is called SPILLOVER, and downline builders using SPILLOVER offer passive promoters - folks who hate selling - to build downlines with little or no effort. The Gold Club does this - it's one of the reasons it's so popular.

SPILLOVER: See MATRIX. The best network marketing programs are often those that employ a forced matrix, simply because this guarantees that even members with poor marketing or recruiting skills will have an effective downline.

TIERS: Your downline is composed of levels, otherwise know as tiers. Your first tier is composed of your referrals. Your first tier is the most valuable and will generate the most revenue. Tiers from 2 down are for indirect referrals. Using the example provided in the definition for Indirect Referral, Bob would be in your 1st tier and Cindy would be in your 2nd tier. If Cindy were to refer someone, that person would be in your 3rd tier. This process can go on and on for as many tiers as the program supports. Using this system provides you with the greatest opportunity for generating revenue.

UPLINE: All the people that joined a business opportunity before you did. You become a member of their business group - i.e. a member of their downline - when you join.

Example:
A joins, then B joins, and then C joins.
A is B’s upline and B is part of A’s downline.
B is part of C’s upline and C is also part of A’s and B’s downline.
REFERRAL: A referral is anyone that you personally get to sign-up at some program. This may be someone that you’ve spoke to about the program or it could be someone you’ve sent a message to, telling them about the program, and they signed up for an account.
